Olympics XXX - London 2012 (Geektastic!)

The Summer Olympics are here once again and I'm psyched! Wait... OH! I see why you're giggling. The XXX doesn't mean that this is a porn parody of the Olympics. XXX is the Roman Numeral for the number 30. This is the 30th Olympiad. The Opening Ceremony is on 27 July 2012 at 21:00 (9:00pm) London time. It will air in the USA at 7:30pm EST on July 27, 2012. Check out the link below for local times:

Danny Boyle, the director of 28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours is directing the London 2012 Opening Ceremony. There are rumors that there will be a Voldemort vs Marry Poppins duel! Please please please let this be true!

Voldemort vs Marry Poppins Rumor at the Mary Sue

London 2012 started off geek-awesome with the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) carrying the Olympic Torch:

Here's another geeky Olympics trivia. During the 2004 Olympiad in Athens, the USA Synchronized Swimming Duet used music from Final Fantasy VIII. I can't remember the name of the piece. Do you know which one it is? I know it's Ultimecia's theme but I forget which part of the game it was used in:

I almost forgot to mention Olympics Basketball!
It's only my favorite event, that's all. My favorite, even before the original Dream Team. Below is a link to the USA Men's Basketball Participants:

Here's the USA Women's Basketball Participants:

Also, I read on the Metro this morning that James Bond (Daniel Craig) might make an appearance at the Opening Ceremonies. Danny Boyle is tight lipped on what is installed.

Olympics 2012 - World Champions Edition

Hello Youtubes!
Who's excited about the 2012 Olympics? I am!!! How excited am I? I'm Guile's Theme excited! Here's an edit I did using the inspirational Olympics 2012 - Survival montage. I did not edit any of the video, I just replaced Muse's song Survival with Guile's Theme. Why Guile's Theme? Because the Olympics is full of Win!

Here's the superior original video. This has become one of my all time favorites:

The Opening Ceremony will be on July 27, 2012. Check your local TV listings for more information.

The Dark Knight Rises

I don't want to review The Dark Knight Rises. There's a bunch of reviews out there already which are definitely more eloquent then what I can write up. With that said, if you're still sticking around and would like to know my opinion:

The Dark Knight Rises is a good movie but, it's not a good stand alone movie. Unlike Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, you'll have to know what went on in the previous two in order to understand The Dark Knight Rises.

If you are on the fence about watching The Dark Knight Rises and don't like Anne Hathaway, stay away from this one. Personally, I really enjoyed Anne Hathaway's portrayal of Catwoman. I like the street smart "Audrey Hepburn-esque" cat burglar portrayal much more than the seductress that recent stories had painted her out to be.

If you liked Batman Begins but hated The Dark Knight er... give The Dark Knight Rises a watch. This recent installment addresses certain issues from Batman Begins and provides resolutions. In fact, the consequences of the Joker's actions in The Dark Knight looms over The Dark Rises like a dark cloud. So, in a way the Joker is in this movie.

If you like Joseph Gordon-Levitt you will like The Dark Knight Rises. Why? Just trust me on this. But if you want to know more I'll discuss that after the "JUMP!"

If you don't care much for Chris Nolan's style of Gotham, definitely skip this. Other wise, it's a pretty good movie and it's uplifting. The Dark Knight Rises closed the series on a good note. For more, I have a list of spoiler-full observations and maybe a smidgen of a review after the "JUMP!"

RATING:
4/5

Some Heavy Thoughts

Originally, I didn't want to address the Aurora, CO incident. GroggyBot is a way for me to escape reality for a bit and kind of sort out my thoughts. My hope is that I can provide entertainment value for my readers while doing so. But a few hrs before my viewing of the Dark Knight Rises, I felt angry and scared. The incident really hits close to home. When I first watched the original Star Wars in a theater, I forever became a fan of the cinema. I love the energy, the excitement, the inspiration (even though I still get uncomfortable in a crowd) and for an hr or two in the dark, I get to share this moment with some like minds. The theater is my second home.

I didn't want to post about the incident because it's already over saturated. But I can't stop thinking about all the lives destroyed because they wanted to dream, to be inspired, to escape reality for 2hrs and 45min. The movie was highly anticipated. Advance tickets were sold out weeks before the premier. People were happy in hopes of watching a great movie... just WTF?!

We all have our coping mechanisms. Don't get me wrong, I'm not judging anyone for wanting to know more about the incident but, I beg for our professional journalist friends to please stop making this asshole famous and giving him the attention that he sought out. What about stories on the cops who apprehended him? Also, this is an act of one insane individual. The cause is much deeper and complex than just our favorite scapegoats: Video Games, Movies, Comic Books and Music

If that were the case, don't you think we'd have a nation of killers instead of these few individuals? I had a lot more to write about but, I don't want to add to the over saturation. I think I'm done venting.

Thanks for all the 3's Ray!

Hmmm... let's see...

Ok, now that is out of the way... to say the least, I was hoping Ray Allen would retire with the Celtics. Of all the teams to sign with, he had to go to the Miami Heat. I guess there is finally a player on the Heat whom I don't mind watching. Good luck Ray and thanks for all the 3's!

Happy 4th of July! (From The Twilight Zone)

Today, the U.S.A. is celebrating Independence Day with cook outs, going to the beach, fireworks and The Twilight Zone Marathon. Happy 4th of July! I'm sure they celebrate the 4th of July in the Twilight Zone as well.

For more information on today's TWZ Marathon check out my previous post:

I'm not going to leave you with just a link. Below is a video I found on youtube titled: TWILIGHT ZONE LOST EPISODE. It's a comedy sketch Rod Serling did parodying his own seires. I haven't found any information on it yet. If anyone has any facts or trivia about this episode, feel free to share!

In Your Arms

Hello Youtubes!
"In Your Arms" written and preformed by the amazing Kina Grannis is one of those rare songs that can brighten up a rainy day. Kina is a very good example that awesome talent can come from Youtube (as with the inspiration for my "Hello Youtubes" posts: Ronald Jenkees). Kina was the winner of the 2008 Doritos Crash the Super Bowl Contest with the youtube upload of her song, "Message From Your Heart." After winning, she got a recording contract with Interscope Records. Shortly after, we get this awesome "In Your Arms" video. Watch it in HD if you can, you'll be able to see every single jelly bean.

Hush, now let's go quiet to the park
Where it first started
Cool night, us lying in the dark
I felt my heart
Was trying to find the place for you to stay
A place where I feel safe

[Chorus:]
Anything we have known, anything we've forgotten
In the rain, in the dark we'll lay
In your arms, in your arms I'll stay
Anything we have known, anything we've forgotten
In the rain, in the dark we'll lay
In your arms, in your arms I'll stay

Take my hand
Let's go into the trees
Behind the branches
Falling on our knees
I remember feeling like this part of us will never change

[Chorus]

Follow me
We both know the way
It's always been the same

[Chorus]

In your arms I'll stay [x4]
