The Walking Dead Finale That I Wanted With CoCo

Conan O'Brien "Dead Yourself"
Hi everyone! If you've noticed, I've been away for a while. It was a combination of work and personal life that kept me away from blogging. In other words, it was procrastination. If you didn't notice, that's ok, no skin off your back or my back. We can all keep our skins!

What brings me back? My dissatisfaction with The Walking Dead Season 3 Finale. Oh man! What were they thinking? All that build up and no delivery. Season 3 started off with the vigorous shaking of the soda can... You shake and shake that soda can as hard as you can in the beginning. Then during mid season, you give it to your thirsty friend, "hey buddy, you thirsty?" The build up as he takes the shaken can... the tension as he lifts that tab... then the Finale! The pay off! And it fizzes... flat... nothing happens. In fact, he drinks the soda and then complains to you that it's bad soda. Fuck you Walking Dead Soda... fuck you...

Anyway, here's what I think would be a better finale. Maybe it's not but, Merle is alive and he shoots Andy:

Ok, maybe that wasn't the best candidate for The Walking Dead Finale because, of the lack of zombies. If you want Conan O'Brien interacting with zombies, there's also this:

Ok, maybe there are no Zombies in Resident Evil 6 either.

The Walking Dead: Dumb Ways To Die

Hello Youtubes!
As you're going through today's marathon of the walking dead, you might notice that there are some pretty dumb deaths in the series. If only they followed Dr. Russell Fell's tips:
  • Run Slow Talk Low
  • I'm in the open? No!
  • Don't be lunch you stupid #$%@!
  • They're not magic, they're not supernatural, they're just dead folk
  • Don't Panic
  • Stay Quiet
  • Get Inside (get a Playstation)
  • Destroy the Brain

Well, as the saying goes: "You Can't Fix Stupid" but, you can definitely sing about it. Oh, I forgot!
SPOILERS!!!

Here's a pretty cool trailer for season 3. It's mostly stuff we've seen already but it did revive my exciting for the series after a weak season 2.

12/12/2012 End of the World! or Street Fighter X Mega Man

So you made it past the initiation part of the Apocalypse. You escaped the super quakes, tsunami of blood and the hell fire raining down from the skies. You've managed to safely barricade yourself from the undead horde. Great!

Before we continue, here's a link to some helpful tips when dealing with zombies. Remember, safety first, always:
Danger! 50,000 Zombies (full 26min)

But what do you do when things starts to slow down and you get all comfy and bored? Not to worry. Just in time for the Apocalypse, a Street Fighter/Mega Man fan developed a pretty awesome game where worlds collide! The game was so awesome that Capcom officially licensed it. And this game is: Street Fighter X Mega Man!

Why play this over the new games with better graphics and sound and quite possibly better game play? Because 2012 is the 25th Anniversary of Street Fighter and Mega Man and it's for FREE! Happy Birthday!!! Which coincides being in the same year as the End of the World. 2012 is definitely special!

Here's where you can download Street Fighter X Mega Man:

I hope you're having as much fun during the Apocalypse as I am!

12/21/2012 End of the World! or The Walking Dead New Year's Eve Marathon

What does The End of the World and the Walking Dead have in common? The Walking Dead is about the end of the world and reanimated corpses who's soul purpose is to eat humans has taken over the world. But what does the Mayan Calender and the Walking Dead New Year's Eve Marathon have in common? Apocalypse might have zombies in them? Eh? Well, I guess if the world does end tomorrow, the marathon might not happen. Which will be kind of sad. Maybe there is no connection? I just wanted to post about The End of the World.

Anyway, I believe this is the 2nd Walking Dead New Year's Eve Marathon? SyFy's Twilight Zone New Year's Eve Marathon has stiff competition. The Walking Dead New Year's Eve Marathon starts at 9am on Monday December 31, 2012 on AMC with the first episode Days Gone Bye. The show will air in chronological order all the way to the latest episode, Made to Suffer on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 3am. But, it doesn't stop there. Days Gone Bye will be aired again right afterwards at 4am to close off the marathon.

Below is AMC's schedule for the Walking Dead New Year's Eve Marathon 2012:

World War Z - Trailer

Z-Nami
This year in New England we had a fare share of mother nature's anger: a 4.0 Earthquake, Hurricane Sandy and the recent Nor'easter. Winter hasn't even come yet! But it seems as though next year everyone will be feeling mother nature's wrath with a Zombie Tsunami. A "Z-Nami" if you will. You'll understand what I'm talking about after watching the trailer below. Actually, I'm not sure if the undead in the World War Z movie is a man-made disaster or a natural phenomenon.

I don't think I'll be watching World War Z based on the trailer. Most likely I'll watch it on video because I did have a fun time watching this awful trailer. I couldn't stop laughing. I don't mind movies veering from the original source. I don't mind fast Zombies but World War Z the movie just looks terrible.

World War Z (an extension to the Zombie Survival Guide) is based on one of my favorite books written by Mel Brooks' son, Max Brooks. The book is social commentary on how the world can be brought down by slow and dumb zombies because of political unrest, weak economic structures, stubborn pride and vapid practices. The book is not about ONE man on a mission to save the world. It actually follows a journalist who travels the world interviewing people post Zombie War. I also recommend the audio book version. World War Z's audio book features a couple of stories that's not told in the book. It also features great voice acting by: Max Brooks, Alan Alda, Henry Rollins and Mark Hamill. Mark Hamill plays a veteran of the Zombie War and does an awesome job especially in the retelling of "the Battle of Yonkers."

For the people whom had read the book. You might be wondering, "what were they thinking?" Well, here's your answer from Entertainment Weekly:

Visual effects supervisor John Nelson (Iron Man) said World War Z’s zombies lean more toward sci-fi transformation victims rather than supernatural resurrection subjects. That led to a lot of research into animal behavior, especially for creatures under the amok-time sway of predator appetite or spawning urge.

“They are like predatory animals that can’t control themselves,” Nelson said. “I worked with tigers [while shooting Gladiator], and if you watch them when a horse goes by they go batty, even if they know they can’t reach it. When Zs see humans they do same thing, they activate. They launch themselves.”

Here's the link to the Entertainment Weekly article:
Brad Pitt amid the panic of 'World War Z,' and why its zombies are more 'predatory' than plodding

Maybe these more science-rific tidal wave of zombies should go against the Sharknado. I'd go to the theaters for "that" movie!

PAX East 2012

PAX East was my first convention for 2012. It was also my first time at PAX East and I was totally overwhelmed. Knowing the MA area well, I thought I was smart enough to be able to get to the Boston Event and Convention Center (BECC) with no problem but I got stuck in traffic at South Station and my car crawled all the way from the Turnpike off ramp to the BECC's alternate parking garage. The alternate garage wasn't too far away from the convention center. It was a 10-15min walk (which was a lot faster than driving in traffic). There were shuttle buses but, being a nice crisp, chilly New England day my group and I decided to walk instead. It was sunny, some wind, a bit nippy... spring was in the air...

New York Comic Con 2011

Hotspot

It was hot, smelly, claustrophobic, and exhausting. It was the New York Comic Con. Combined with the Anime Festival under one roof at the Javits Center, the Comc Con resulted in a record breaking attendance of 105,00 people. Literally a sea of people packed from wall to wall. Sounds intimidating? It was. It also had all the qualities I listed above but, what drew all those people to this place? The answer is one tiny word, FUN! The one thing that can supersede anything. When I was younger, I played basketball in 90 degree weather with 90 percent humidity for hours and not notice the heat because, it was FUN! There also was the time when I went skiing in subzero temperature, during hail conditions, when the snow was frozen and slippery. All that didn't matter because of the FUN! Such a small word for such an awesome vehicle for perseverance. The New York Comic Con was definitely an awesome experience. For the entire weekend of October 14th-16th I was overwhelmed by the convention. It was electrifying. I was thinking, if the Matrix needed energy, this would be the place to harness an unlimited supply. I had never experienced anything like it. Waves and waves of people flowing towards their fandom. There was something there for everyone. The vendors had a variety of interesting collectibles to offer. From food to toys to books to clothes, movies, posters, etc... The next neighborhood over from the Vendors Area was the Artist Alley where the artists were hard at work on fan commissioned sketches. It was nice to see a few familiar faces in there. Sarah Richard, Yuko Ota, J. Scott Campbell, and Adam Hughes were among the many talents in the Alley. In order to escape the hordes of people, I'd had to wait in line to get into the panels. Sometimes I was in queue for more than hr. They were worth the wait though.

This year's big draw was the Walking Dead and the upcoming Avengers movie. During The Avengers Panel, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth showed up to talk about the movie. Mark Hammill (Luke Skywalker) was also a guest for 2 separate panels. One dedicated to the Jedi Knight himself and the other was a promotion for the "New Gen" comic book (and soon to be movie). Mark Hamill was available for autographs as well. In order to get his autograph, I waited in line at the Autographing Area near the Hasbro Pavillion where the costume contest and some of the performances were held. Then there was the Anime Festival area. To get there, I banked a right at the giant balloon of Finn and Jake from Adventure Time to go up to the upper level of the Javits Center. A large number of Anime cosplayers were gathered there. I can't do the convention justice in this article. It's tough for me to put in words of being under one roof with thousands of creative cosplayers, hundreds of events, the many geek gods and goddesses promoting our favorite shows, movies, videogames and comics... and most importantly, to share a spot with a hundred thousand people whom are passionate about the same things I am. All those years of being made fun of for liking the things I like was washed away by this gigantic ocean of (my fellow) geeks. I belong! Even after a week I am still shocked and awed. I'm definitely going again next year and I recommend everyone to go, even at least for a day. It's a once in a life time experience to be in this ginormous assemblage of enthusiasm.

There's a lot more after the "JUMP!"

Zombie March New England

Hello Youtubes!

This time on "Hello Youtubes!" I want to talk about a local Boston, MA event. There is an event that has been happening in the past 7 years in my city that I did not know about! The Zombie March has been happening for 7 years! 7 years! Being a huge zombie fan, I have no idea how I missed this the last 6 years. It's not like it's a small event. I'm talking about a huge horde of zombies. Miles of zombies and it disrupts (not complaining) the city of Boston for an entire day. I'm not talking about just one section of Boston. The march route starts from South Station. It goes through Downtown Crossing, Boston Commons, the Public Garden, Newbury St and to the Prudential. From there it goes through the Prudential Mall, back to Boston Commons and congregates at Government Center for a huge battle between the undead and the living. Miles of zombies! It's an amazing sight and loads of fun. There's no agenda or political subtext, it's just plain fun. The living dead were not the only ones marching. There were zombie hunters (Umbrella), survivors, Ghostbusters, super heroes and even Mr. T.

Be sure to click on "JUMP!" for more Undead goodness:
