The Twilight Zone Marathon July 4th 2014

Hello TWZ fans! How are you guys doing? I'm doing alright. SyFy will be marathoning The Twilight Zone on July 4th again this year! The marathon will start at 8am EST on July 4th with Five Characters in Search of an Exit. There will be a break at 8pm to 12:10am for WWE Smackdown from 8pm to 10pm. At 10pm to 12:05am two episodes of Spartacus will be showing. The marathon finally continues at 12:05am with The Midnight Sun. It will conclude with Long Distance Call on July 5th at 3:40am. If you can call it a marathon with a four hour break in between. The SyFy Channel just down right sucks. If you can I recommend getting the Twilight Zone on DVD or Blu Ray. I highly recommend Blu Ray. You might think, "it's just a black and white show. How much clearer can it get?" My friend, I thought the same too but, the blacks are true blacks on Blu Ray with many shades in between which makes the dimension of sight, the dimension of sound and the dimension of mind much more clearer and crisper. Once you experience it in true high def, you'll understand. Plus, there's a bunch of cool extras that comes with the Blu Ray set. Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983): The Best and The Worst

Happy New Year! Last year I did the Best and Worst of the 2002 UPN version of The Twilight Zone and I realized that I ran out of Twilight Zones to write about. Or did I? Twilight Zone: The Movie was released in 1983. Two years before the 1985 revival on TV. The same year as Return of the Jedi and Scarface. Yes, Twilight Zone: The Movie was on the big screen. It was produced by Steven Spielberg and John Landis. Can you imagine hearing about this in the early 80's? That they are bringing back the Twilight Zone but, not only that. Spielberg and Landis are both producing and directing! One is a great story teller and the other is a master of horror! The movie turned out to be a disappointment. To begin with it went through a bunch of production problems which culminated in the death of three actors: Vic Morrow and two child actors: Myca Dinh Le and Renee Shin-Yi Chen. It was terrible and tragic. The three actors died on set during a staged helicopter stunt gone wrong. You can search for the story on the internet and there are clips on youtube as well. The production team ignored the safety of the actors and violated a bunch of child actors laws. The part being filmed was part of the Vietnam scene in the first segment, Time Out. It's a very over the top story about racism. I'll talk more about it in the Best/Worst section. Twilight Zone: The Movie was split into five segments. An introduction and an epilogue to book end the movie. Then four separate segments. Out of the four segments there is an original story and three remakes. The initial idea was to have a character from the introduction appearing in each of the segments. That idea did not ban out but, they got Burgess Meredith, who acted in a couple of episodes in the classic Twilight Zone, to narrate the introduction and for the individual segments. Just like how Rod Serling narrated the introduction and sometimes the ending for the classic series. You might remember Burgess Meredith in Time Enough At Least as a man who survives a nuclear bomb and finally has all the time in the world to do what he loves most. Unlike, Serling, Merdith did not appear on screen. Twilight Zone: The Movie had a budget of $10 Million which might have been a lot in 1983. I'm not sure but, the movie had a feel of "just throw money into it and it'll be good" quality. It feels over produced and under written. Even as a child, back in the 80's I thought the movie was crap. Everything was so over the top. No subtlety what so ever. I am very critical of this movie but I do revisit it once in a while. Sometimes, I do find myself enjoying it from a different perspective. During my last viewing, I had a great time watching Nancy Cartwright's (Bart Simpson) performance as Ethel, Anthony's sister, in the third segment. Since there are only five segments, I'll just rate them in the order of appearance instead of having separate sections for Best and Worst. The Intro and the Epilogue is technically one segment but, I'll split them according to chronological order. The list is right after the "JUMP!". The Twilight Zone Marathon New Year's Eve 2013

Happy New Year Twilight Zone Fans! This year's Twilight Zone marathon will start at 8am EST on December 31st with One For The Angels. AMC's Breaking Dead Marathon 2013

Planning on heading out to town to celebrate New Year's Eve with a lot drinking this year? But you're worried about getting into trouble while drunk? Your worries are over! Doctor Who: The Time of the Doctor - Christmas Special 2013

Christmas! Happy Christmas? Have a Doctor Who Christmas? I don't know if I should be happy about this year's Doctor Who Christmas Special. This will be Matt Smith's last episode. The 11th Doctor being my favorite, I really don't want to see him go. At the same time, I'm excited to see what Peter Capaldi will bring to the role. The Time of the Doctor will be on BBC America tonight at 9pm EST. Congratulations everyone on making it past Vampire Season once again! After tonight the days will be getting longer again. So, be sure to lock your doors, board your windows, hang those garlic garlands and arm yourselves with stakes. After tonight we should be in the clear. Happy Winter Solstice! Oh yeah, no Apocalypse prediction this year. Once we make it past the longest night of the year, we have something else to look forward to. The Doctor Who 2013 Christmas Special - The Time of the Doctor will be on BBC America at this side of pond. It'll be aired on December 25, 2013 9pm EST. Actually, I'm not looking forward to this year's Christmas Special since Matt Smith's 11th or is it 13th incarnation of the Doctor will be regenerating into the 12th? The 14th? It's so confusing. Peter Capaldi will be the next regeneration. Being a Matt Smith Doctor Who fan, it'll be tough to see him go. The Walking Dead Finale That I Wanted With CoCo

Conan O'Brien "Dead Yourself" Hi everyone! If you've noticed, I've been away for a while. It was a combination of work and personal life that kept me away from blogging. In other words, it was procrastination. If you didn't notice, that's ok, no skin off your back or my back. We can all keep our skins! What brings me back? My dissatisfaction with The Walking Dead Season 3 Finale. Oh man! What were they thinking? All that build up and no delivery. Season 3 started off with the vigorous shaking of the soda can... You shake and shake that soda can as hard as you can in the beginning. Then during mid season, you give it to your thirsty friend, "hey buddy, you thirsty?" The build up as he takes the shaken can... the tension as he lifts that tab... then the Finale! The pay off! And it fizzes... flat... nothing happens. In fact, he drinks the soda and then complains to you that it's bad soda. Fuck you Walking Dead Soda... fuck you... Anyway, here's what I think would be a better finale. Maybe it's not but, Merle is alive and he shoots Andy: Ok, maybe that wasn't the best candidate for The Walking Dead Finale because, of the lack of zombies. Oh man! Have we got a treat for you this week! This week on the Adventures Of The Little Koala, the show breaks formula by making the two 10min segments into one 20min story. In the first part, The Mysterious Moa Bird, "Papa" Koala has an obsession for capturing the elusive Moa Bird on camera. Their very own cryptid. Then the story continues into the second part, Love That Baby Moa!, Roobear and his friends finds a way to help the endangered baby Moa. The Mysterious Moa Bird (episode 5a) Love That Baby Moa! (episode 5b) Then we have a very cool episode of The Real Ghostbusters written by Michael Reaves. The Ghostbusters are hired by two kids who are terrorized by the Boogieeman living in their closet. One of the best episodes in the series. This is where The Real Ghostbusters found its stride. The amazing Frank Welker, who voiced Megatron and Soundwave on Transformers and many other cartoon characters is the Bogieeman. He also does Slimer's voice. I was hoping to post more this week before Saturday Morning Cartoons came around but, the weekend snuck up on me! This week on the Adventures Of The Little Koala, Roobear and friends enters a contest on building sand castles while learning a lesson in architectural design. After that, Roobear and friends learn to fly with a hang glider. Floppy can't seem to get off the ground. With some personal lessons from Mingle, Floppy becomes an ace in no time. The King of the Castle (episode 4a) Hang-Gliding With Roobear (episode 4b) Written by Bruce Reid Schaeffer, in this episode of The Real Ghostbusters, a young troll decides to leave his tribe to explore New York City. Soon enough, the Ghostbusters are caught up in a troll problem (not the internet kind) when the young troll's tribe takes over the Queensboro Bridge in search for their missing brother. This week on the Adventures Of The Little Koala, Roobear, Floppy and Pamie ventures into a cave in search for the lost Dr. Flight. They encounter a creepy "Ghost Ship" during their search. Then in the next episode, Pamie develops an eating disorder because Walter and his brothers told her that she looks like a balloon. The Twilight Zone (2002): The Best and The Worst

Happy New Year! In 2002 UPN revived The Twilight Zone with stories that were more topical and edgy. Being produced after 9/11, there were stories that touched upon homeland security and terrorism. The biggest example being The Monsters are on Maple Street. A retelling of the 1960's Twilight Zone episode, The Monsters are Due on Maple Street. The original story dealt with the fear of an alien invasion (allegory for a communist invasion). The updated 2002 version dealt with the fear of a terrorist attack. The 2002 Twilight Zone intro music was covered by Jonathan Davis of Korn. It's not as good as the 1985 Grateful Dead cover. Actually, a lot of things in this updated version didn't measure up to its predecessors. The 2002 Twilight Zone didn't have a lot of positives going for it. Most of the stories were bland with bad cheat twist endings or, endings that just lead to nowhere. Some of the directing was boring. There were a lot of unlikable characters. In fact, the series was so bad the show was cancelled after the first season. For the sake of doing this list, this was my 5th attempt at watching the show since the first time I watched it in 2002. I'd finally succeeded in grinding through the 44 episodes. Not all of them were bad. There were some exceptional episodes that's worthy of the original and the 1985 series. There were a lot of directors and writers that I didn't recognize. Some of them worked on the shows that I like: Battlestar Galatica, Buffy, Angel, Firefly... just to name a few. There were also a couple of actors who were involved with Battlestar Galactica peppered throughout the series like Rehka Sharma, Kandyse McClure and, Nicki Clyne. But the notable stars advertised at the time were Usher, Jessica Simpson, Amber Tamblyn, Jeremy Piven, Jason Alexander, Elizabeth Berkley and Shannon Elizabeth. I remember the promos on UPN making a huge deal about them being in the "New" Twilight Zone. Another notable name attached was Forest Whitaker. He hosted and narrated each episode in the tradition of Rod Serling who did the same in the original Twilight Zone. Unfortunately, Forest Whitaker was a bit a bland in the role. Last year, I'd listed 15 of the Best and 10 of the Worst episodes from the 1985 Twilight Zone. The year before that, I made a list of 15 of the Best and 10 of the Worst episodes from the original Twilight Zone. This year, I present to you 15 of the Best and 10 of the Worst from the 2002 The Twilight Zone. They are listed in the order presented on the DVD set. The list is right after the "JUMP!". The Walking Dead Marathon New Year's Eve 2012

Happy New Year (again)! A friendly reminder that The Twilight Zone Marathon on SyFy is not the only game in town. AMC is also running their own marathon... of the dead! The Walking Dead! The marathon starts at 9am on Monday December 31, 2012 on AMC with Days Gone Bye. It will end on Wednesday January 2, 2013 at 4am with Days Gone Bye book ending the marathon.
